Role Overview:

In the role of RF & Optics Team Leader, you will line manage a team of experienced and junior engineers to ensure work is effectively allocated and executed on time and to budget. You will work collaboratively with other project stakeholders to support the design and development of new and existing products across the whole range of ETL’s product portfolio.

 

The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate will be degree qualified and come from a background in RF hardware design. They will have prior experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers on RF design projects to achieve performance, budget, and schedule requirements.

With excellent technical knowledge of RF circuit design and measurement covering a broad range of functions and frequencies from DC up to Ka-band, they will use their experience to guide RF designs to achieve internal and external customer requirements.

They will have a practical and pragmatic approach, displaying strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to build good working relationships with other key stakeholders within engineering and across the wider business. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • To lead and undertake the hands-on RF design and development of a range of RF & Microwave products over the spectrum of IF, L-Band, C-Band, X-Band, Ku-Band, K-Band and Ka-Bands.
  • To ensure a high standard of documentation is delivered to accompany designs, for example, technical documentation and datasheets, requirements, design documents, test reports, technical briefings, and other documents required for gate reviews.
  • Day-to-day leadership of the RF and Optics Team, including mentoring members within their team, ensuring the team is motivated and able to deliver work to agreed standards of quality and on time.
  • To deliver successful RF designs to time and budget and provide accurate time/cost estimations for new projects.
  • To liaise closely with Team Leaders and Engineers from other disciplines (e.g. Mechanical, PCB, Electronics, Software, Test) to ensure products meet the requirements.
  • To liaise closely with colleagues from across the business (e.g. Production, Operations, Sales & Marketing etc.) and other Project Stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of customer deliverables.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that risks and issues are identified and managed closely.
  • Provide regular and effective progress updates to the Engineering management team.
  • To contribute to the expansion of RF/Microwave knowledge, processes, and techniques within the company.
  • Occasional business travel to attend conferences, exhibitions, seminars, and networking events outside of working hours.
  • To commit to the continuous improvement of self, team and ETL.

 

Desirables:

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Batchelor’s or Master’s degree with minimum of 4 years industry experience.
  • Experience of satellite industry and instrumentation products.
  • Understanding of RF technologies and RF design techniques.
  • Strong technical experience, including experience of managing RF, hardware, and software implementation.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Creative yet pragmatic problem-solving skills. Methodical, hands-on, and detail oriented.
  • Excellent planning, execution, and project-management skills.
  • Experience with RF/PCB design tools (AWR, HFSS, Altium, or similar)
  • Sound experience in Microsoft Office.
