Lab Manager (LifeLab)

Salary: £25-27,000 per annum

Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week) permanent

We are looking for a highly motivated, Lab Manager to join our Schools and Communities team to support curriculum-linked workshops in our labs. The role involves working within a fast-paced, busy environment with hundreds of school students visiting every week to enjoy being scientists and investigating the world around them.

Your duties will be managing the labs and prep room in Lifelab, providing technical expertise, planning, delivery and safe operation of technical resources, supervising the Lab Technician and troubleshooting technical problems. You will oversee day to day running and help provide a well maintained, clean, safe and visitor-focused experience for schools and communities. You will manage all materials and equipment, maintaining stocks and ordering as needed, and ensure appropriate disposal of wastes and any hazardous material.

The successful candidate will have experience of working within a similar role in a busy lab or school environment. With practical skills in setting up and supporting the delivery of activities and experiments, you will be a confident, approachable and reliable individual with excellent organisational skills. Knowledge of a range of laboratory techniques and experience across STEM disciplines including molecular biology and DNA techniques (e.g. PCR) used to A-level is essential.
