Technician

Salary: £27,000 per annum (FTE)

Hours: 32 hours per week (8 hours a day)

We are looking for a well organised, proactive individual to join our Technical Operations Team. 

The team play an important role in helping create the best possible experience for our visitors by ensuring that all exhibits, theatres and other spaces are kept in top condition and well maintained.

You will be responsible for opening and closing all exhibits, carrying out regular inspections and preventative maintenance, proactively seeking solutions to any faults and working individually or as part of the team to resolve issues and reduce downtime. This may involve the installation of mechanical and electronic parts to manufacturer specification and guidance. Other duties include the setup of any temporary exhibitions and events, including late night functions. Helping to set up and maintain the   annual outdoor ice rink is another important role.

Ideally you will have experience in a similar role; you will excel at fault finding in mechanical, low voltage electrical and computer based systems and have a good understanding of health and safety procedures. Strong IT skills and experience of working with AV are essential. A good level of physical fitness and stamina is required. Strong IT skills and experience of working with AV are essential.

The science centre is open 7 days per week, and the role involves weekends and early morning/ evening work throughout the year. A flexible approach and the ability to work to a rota system is essential. Ideally, you will also have flexibility to work additional hours at peak times as needed.
