Project Coordinator (Science Clubs) - Schools and Community Engagement Team (Term time only)

Rate of Pay: £13.10  per hour

Hours: A minimum of 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday - fixed term contract until 31 July 2025.

We are looking for someone who is as passionate as we are about engaging people with science.

We are looking for an out-going person to join our Schools and Community Engagement team. You will share our passion for inspiring people to explore and enjoy science. Your role will be to co-ordinate and deliver after-school science clubs to schools across the North-East. This funded  project involves working in schools and the science centre, to deliver a 6-week science club to students from year 1 to year 8.  You will co-develop the content, monitor and update progress towards the project targets, deliver the activities and train and support others to deliver the content.

You will be a key contact for schools so outstanding customer service skills and excellent communication and organisational skills are essential. You will be interacting with a range of audiences, but your focus will be delivering curriculum-linked activities to school groups both at Life and in schools and community settings. You will be a confident performer, who can deliver hands-on science activities that are consistently exciting, entertaining, informative and fun.

The role is busy and varied and requires travel to schools around the region, usually in the small Life van (an electric vehicle). A clean driving licence is essential. You will organise and manoeuvre equipment to and from schools to deliver outreach workshops as well as delivering in our lab spaces at Life. Physical stamina, enthusiasm and the ability to work at a high standard for long periods are   essential. Working hours may vary to meet the needs of the business so a flexible approach will be required.

Comprehensive training will be provided. Life is a welcoming and friendly place to work.  We offer you a range of staff benefits including access to wellbeing initiatives, an employee assistance programme and discounted car-parking in the centre of Newcastle.

The successful applicants will be subject to a DBS check. Details of our DBS policy is available on request. For further information regarding this post, please refer to the job description and person specification on our website.

To apply for this vacancy, please complete the online application form which can be accessed from our website at https://www.life.org.uk/join-the-team/  by midday Wednesday 31 July 2024.

Interviews will be held on the 7-8 August 2024.
